As part of our commitment to be socially responsible, and give back to this beautiful country, Tukata Vientiane will be donating 50,000 kip per student from received enrollment fees for the months of November, December and January.

Our Project Manager, Kelly has known CleanBirth's Founder Kristyn Zalota for almost 3 years. Kristyn first contacted Kelly soon after the birth of Kelly's son to enquire about what is is like for an expat, living in Laos, to give birth in a local Lao hospital. They have been in contact ever since. We are honored that we can in some small way via Tukata, make births safer for mamas in Laos.

Why we love CleanBirth.org:

CleanBirth.org is a US registered 501c3 non-profit, founded by Kristyn Zalota, a mom and doula, to make birth safer in Laos.  CleanBirth.org empowers nurses to provide women in their communities with Clean Birth Kits and safe birthing education. We support our Lao partner organization, Salavan-based ACD, in their day-to-day management of programming, training and distribution of birth kits. We listen to needs on the ground and fulfill them to the best of our ability.

To date we have provided 3,000 birth kits, which contain all the items mothers need to prevent infections in themselves and their babies. Kits contain: 1 pair of gloves, 1 bar of medicated soap, 2 absorbent pads, 2 cord clamps, 1 sterile blade, 1 instruction sheet which explains item use in pictures.
  • Mothers who used the kits reported ZERO cases of infection in 2014.
  • We have funded training for 240 nurses, with the help of Yale University midwives.
  • The Lao government has accepted our proposal, allowing us to work in clinics and train nurses.
